This is one trend that I think will stand the test of time. The Bar Engagement Session.
I think these types of sessions represent a desire for authenticity and identity for couples. Many couples are choosing to have their session shot at a location that holds meaning or a place where they enjoy spending time. This couple chose a favorite bar in their home city of Lancaster. Yes. Proof Lancaster is a visually stunning, cozy speakeasy, but to my couple, a favorite spot for a craft cocktail and a gathering with friends. Here are some ways to ensure a smooth finish during your session.
Reserve your session ahead of time.
Do not Do not Do not show up unannounced thinking you will just sneak in a few photos. These sessions need to be scheduled and most upscale cocktail lounges are more than happy to accommodate, especially if the couple are patrons. Be gracious. Be courteous. Arrive on time and end shooting on time. Have your photographer take some photos of the environment, so the venue can use them in their marketing.
2. Order drinks!
Ask the bartending staff what their signature cocktails are and order two. Not only will cocktails make your session more fun, it will elevate the photos adding interest and amplify the aesthetic.
3. Dress the vibe.
Coordinate your attire with the vibe of the bar. If it’s elegant, go for suits or a long evening gown. More casual? A mini dress with spiky heels is a fun look. Dive bar? Cuff that denim and grab your library sweater.
This session doesn’t need to be stressful or overthought, but a little pre prep will take it over the top! More importantly, it will like you!
