Natural Engagement Session (Photographer’s Take)…
Finding the perfect spot for your engagement session doesn’t need to be daunting. Make it personal. What do you enjoy doing as a couple? Incorporate your hobbies, interests and passions into your session. If it’s being out in nature there can be lots of locations to choose from. Here are some ways to fine tune to get the spot of your engagement session dreams.
1. Make a list.
No. Seriously. Write out your wish list and be detailed. If you are wanting a water element what kind? Quiet pond? Trickling stream? Ocean? Fir trees? A few or a forest? Covered bridge? Thinking through these details will help give you and your photographer a great idea of the visual you’re going for and be a good starting point for location hunting. A list will help clarify your ideas and rank them in order of importance, but pair it with a mood board for the important visual.
2. Time of day.
Now, any photographer of experience will guide you towards the best light of day, but sunrise is definitely an underrated option. You may want the golden glow of sunset, but morning light is incredible and often allows you more privacy when photographing in a public place.
3. Props please!
Your photographer loves taking their inspiration from you. (Trust me on this) Bring some props to incorporate into your session. This helps to create a deeply personal session. A favorite book that you’ve read together, a favorite bottle of wine, postcards, vintage records, a pet (my dream sessions always include a dog!)
Again. Don’t overthink your engagement session. This session celebrates YOU and your partner. Focus on the things in your life that you enjoy and enjoying sharing together. Let your photographer know your interests and your location wish list and they will do the rest!
